Discover the Aeolian Islands

Panarea

The smallest of the islands which has become a so called "jet-set" magnet. All other islands can be reached easily by boat or helicopter from Panarea. The island is surrounded by uninhabited volcanic islets, and even boasts the remains of a Roman pier.

Best Accommodations

Quartara Resort Hotel – reminiscent of the Greek Islands with gorgeous views and excellent kitchen. The hotel is built on what was once a store, with lavish use of local lava stone and beautifully crafted Sicilian furnishings. Overlooking the harbour – it has the views but not the noise and complimentary shuttle service for guests. It’s quiet but plenty to do or do nothing at all.

Hotel La Piazza – located on the exclusive east coast of the island is a location with breathtaking scenery and excellent services however it is a bit isolated. The hotel’s restaurant is of course wonderful.

Can't be beat eats - Panarea:
Da Francesco – Panarea
Trattoria da Pina - Panarea

Salina

"The Isola Verde" is a food lover’s dream, offering an array of the freshest seafood, Malvasia wines, and its famous capers. Twin volcanic peaks dominate the island’s view. At the northern end is the lighthouse of Faro in the wealthy area which produces the rare Malvasia wine.

Best Accommodations

Capofaro Malvasia Resort – Owned and lovingly run by the family Tasca d’Almer family, this eighteen room hotel has panoramic views amid Malvasia vines which hang above the sea. Very quiet location.

Principe di Salina – Principe di Salina is located in a panoramic position at the top of Malfa, offering a high level of service, excellent restaurant and deluxe accommodations. Top of the hill!

Signum – charming small hotel in the shade of the twin peaks. All rooms have balconies and overlook the beautiful gardens or the sea. The hotel’s restaurant features "al fresco" dining or dining inside the veranda.

La Locando del Postino – Much of the beloved Italian movie "Il Postino" was filmed here. Located on the Pollara plateau, the hotel offers spectacular sunsets. This is a small informal Aeolian style hotel with a restaurant specializing in local cuisine. Simple but delightful rooms. Yes – they still have the bicycle!!!

Vulcano

A belching volcano dominates this island where thermal baths are plentiful for those who like rubbing smelly mud on themselves! The sand is black, the hotels are spectacular, and positively no end of good eats….. but…ditch the white bathing suit!

Best Accommodations on Vulcano

Therasia Resort – Incredible views, five star luxury and an army of chefs, and wonderful staff make this hotel world class. Yet it remains paradoxically simple and unspoiled. The fabulous al fresco restaurant and bar offer the best of the Mediterranean.

Hotel Eros – This four star hotel is located on the seashore amid glorious tropical gardens, giving a park like ambience. Excellent restaurant and lovely accommodations in Aeolian style make this a perfect spot to relax.

Hotel Conti – This pretty three star hotel sits on a black sand beach facing the Bay of Ponente. This is not a hotel for those seeking luxury but for those who are looking for a unique experience. The hotel restaurant serves simple local Cuisine, mainly seafood, served in a panoramic setting like no other.
